Default Computer Tips

I thought I'd start this off as some people are being misled by unscrupulous characters.

Basically post your computer tips relating to any program or Windows operating system.

Millions of tips should be floating around & this should be helpful to all of us.

Obviously there are no limits to these due to the vast range of software, so any tips are most welcome.

Please pos only GENUINE tips here as this is for technical support to all concerned.

Also feel free to ask questions as someone here may be able to assist in your query.

A couple to get you started, some people may know these but some wont.

First off if you press Alt & F4 simultaneously it will close the immediate program you are currently in/running.

For highlighting text press CTRL & A this will highlight all.

If you keep everything highlighted & press CTRL & 2 it will give each line a double space between each line.

Good Stuff Sp00k...

One I didn't know until recently is this:

CTRL & Z

This will backup one step in many programs in the windows enviroment... typing a post and accidentally highlight and make bold the wrong part - CTRL+Z and poof yer right back at the just highlighted part... etc...

Real time saver for crappy typers like me.

Sticking with the CTRL theme button. If your on a webpage or or reading any kind of document if you press CTRL & End it wil take you to the end of the document. Conversely if you press CTRL & Home it will take you to the beginning.

I'm wondering if anyone is not aware of the facility the scroll wheel on your mouse offers other than scrolling manually?

Tips using Word

Soft Breaks

If you are typing away with text formatted with bullets or numbers and you want to break the paragraph, if you hit Enter, you'll get a new paragraph with a bullet or number. To add a new paragraph formatted as part of the same bullet or number, hit Shift+Enter.

Quick Case Conversion

If you need to convert the case of text, rather than selecting a character or word, deleting it, and then retyping it in the correct case, once it's selected, just hit Shift+F3 to swap the case.

Holding down Shift and tapping on the F3 key will convert text from TitleCase, to UpperCase, to LowerCase.

Say you notice that you accidentally typed a whole paragraph with the cap lock turned on. Triple click to select the paragraph. Then hit Shift+F3 once to switch it all to lowercase. A second Shift+F3 on the selected text will turn it to TitleCase, thereby changing all the first letters in each sentence to capitals. Saving you time from retyping.

For the safest internet browsing using FIREFOX with the NOSCRIPT plugin

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722

Basically all java script is blocked on all sites until you tell it otherwise. If u get taken to a dodgy pron site via myspace say ~ itll stop u from getiing bombarded with viruses. Im not sayin EVERYTHIN nasty will be stopped cos viruses and trojans get cleverer all the time but since using it ive NEVER had anythin nasty and ive been on some dodgy sites

If someone on your computer forgets a password to their account and you are an administrator you can change it for them from your account by going on start, run and typing

control userpasswords2

You can also set up your computer to automatically log in to a certain account from there. I can't remember what options I chose but it's straight forward.

Stop annoying things from running at start up by running

msconfig

and going to the startup tab (obviously don't remove anything you aren't sure of).
It can be done using CCLeaner as well.

I'll post more when my mind is working better.
