Media Players in Vista

Apparently that is a problem with Vista because not long after I got my new computer my media player went whack ... I was going to try uninstalling and re installing but I can't even find it to uninstall it . It isn't listed in the control panel under add/remove programs ... if you figure out how to fix it let me in on the secret

Download the DIVX player ~
DivX Video Player - DivX Codec - DivX Converter - DivX Web Player - Download DivX for Windows

then download and install these codecs
Download Vista Codec Package 4.7.3 - With this package installed, you shouldn't need to install any other codec or filter - Softpedia

For some reason the divx player is so far the only one that plays the 'weirder' files. If you have any problems with a particular file let me know as i have other (possible) solutions

(Possibly you may need to install the codecs first, I cant remember now to be honest)

This is a great video player for windows vista. It will play DVD, Divx, mpeg, mkv, avi, divx, quicktime and more.

It is revered on many platforms.

Cheers Noodles. I downloaded VLC not realising there was special Vista version. Intrigued to see if it plays the dodgier files I have.

Ive just found my copies of DVD REBUILDER dont show the media being played! OMG, thats really NOT good...............

I do not have experience with that format. What format does it change the DVD .vob MPEG-2 files into?

The vob files are sound. Theres an inbuilt editor though so i can see each sequence and play about at will (credits say, so I can drop the bitrate to have a better film)
Its the inbuilt editor thats blank so Ive no ida whats playing in a certain section
