Default Windows Vista Horror stories

Post 'em here!!

Only been messing around with it for a couple of hours, but already fussing with the Explorer options...

It keeps 'reloading' or some shit, which shifts the listing... twice I went to copy stuff and put it in the wrong folder because windows refreshed the list moving the folders slightly?!?!

Also, when browsing my folders in the dropdown it only gives me like 1 second to find what I need and click it or it closes the dropdown?!?! Double WTF!??!

I'm waiting for the bulk of the kinks to be worked out. In the past whenever I've immeditately changed over my computer was none the worse.

I'm glad I didn't bother. I think I'll wait for it to grow a bit in popularity....if it ever gets that far.

About impossible to purchase a new computer (PC) without it unless I want learn LINUX or summat.

I'd have purchased a MAC, but getting a decent sized HDD on a MAC costs well more than I was willing to pay... *sighs*

Sadly there are alway bugs to iron out and to be honest every window environment as of yet has had flaws all the way through it lifespan. Its alright giving us updates and fixes, what we want is a system thats inherently stable.

Desktop Macs are pricey, but I added a 400gig SATA Seagate for only $119.00

I dont have it yet cos im waitin for various things to be released for it.

My dad bought a new Dell with it on though and to be fiar it seems ok. Just a few compatability issues here and there.

I DID read that theyve fucked up the sound processing though. The XP sound totally destroys the Vista one (i can remember why as its pretty technical but its a clear step back)

Also ~ the VISTA ONLY games like HALO2 and shadow whatever it is (i cant remember). Some guy HAS go the whole things up and runnin on XP without taking anything out so its all bollox on Microsofts behalf

I have not had one problem with Vista Home edition, and I Use Firefox internet browser so suggest downloading that, It's free and stable. Mozilla - Home of the Firefox web browser and Thunderbird email client

As for the sound my Card has some great options that can improve the sound and add some basic effects like make it sound as if your in a bathroom, or a Concert hall etc. Of course my Chip set is a Dual AMD turion 64x2.

G it's called a flash drive you can get a 1-2 gig on sell for $19.99-$29.99. Try that I do when I need to print something

I suppose I could do that 30 or 40 times....

And half the time Vista can't find my printer. It shows it too me on the screen, but tells me it ain't there...

And that STILL wouldn't work, as I would have to have the same software on my desktop as I do on my notebook, which I do not.

Vista is crap.

It took out my Yahoo! Messenger for over a month. Yahoo! finally managed to patch it.

Vista has also somehow changed permissions for my media player to admin only which means I can't open or view WMP files from my browser....

POS...

I've played around on my mother's new laptop with Vista a couple times, trying to help her figure stuff out, but I've not been brave enough to make the jump myself. It looks like they tried to make the OS a lot more like Mac... at least in looks. Not really sure about interface. I think that when I finally upgrade my computer (which is looking like just a couple parts costing me as much as the computer was altogether when I built it! ) then I will look into Vista, but that is at least a couple months from now. I don't think I'll trust it 'til it's been out for about a year, so that a good portion of the kinks have been worked out.

IMO I wouldn't contemplate using Vista until its been out a while and only if I need a new machine. I certainly would not upgrade. It has some good points but at the moment too many negatives to even consider it.

As of yet I've not had the misfortune to repair anyone's computer who have Vista or indeed asked to have it put on their machine. After all the Microsoft hype I was expecting a lot more. Seems a lot tighter on security issues though.

Maybe later but at the moment I'm more than happy with XP and I've not had any real problems with it so I'm staying with it.
