Intimidation or Shyness? Introvert or Extrovert?

Do you ever feel shy or intimidated to the extent you can't participate in certain activiites? If so why?
No its not a rhetorical question I simply ask cos there are times when you can be somewhere whether it be here or in a bar or some social function. Are you the life of the party? Can you take the lead or initiative to get things started or do you prefer to help out after someone else has initiated the proceedings.

If I'm at a party I go for it, like to mingle & get to know people pretty quick & this way you find out how people react & weigh up things accordingly. Introductions with a base of humour always break the ice but not to everyone's taste.

Circumstances can prevail but in general are you the extorvert, the introvert or do you prefer to sit back & take it all on board for your own pleasure?

If it is a crowd I sit back for just a bit to get a "feel" for everyone...then once I am comfortable I jump in. But in general I meet people easily, I tend to do better with one on one conversations though...maybe I just like the personal attention

Oh I think everyone like personal attention some people like to be the centre of attraction & the main focal point. Can you really imagine if everyone was extrovert? Jeez I think we'd be fighting to get a word in.

We need the mixture of every type of personna to get the best in a given situation depending on the ambience etc. Extroverts help bring out the shyness in people & introverts brong out the charisma of the extroverts. so really we compliment each other to a degree.

Now I'm just trying to find out how our members react & really relying on their honesty. One of the reasons I ask is sometimes there are lots of people online & ther sems to be a lull in participation if any at all at some time or other. That could be for a multitude of reasons & honestly I'm not looking for any justification in their choices.

I guess I'm just being nosey

It is a running joke in my family that I am shy and meek.

As you probabably have guessed, it's because I am anything but. In a crowd I am about as subtle as Shaquille O'neal at a midget convention...

The thing is we need people like yourself to be the life & soul of the party to bring other people out of their shell. Lets face it SS no-one ones to go to a party if its gonna be too quiet then again it all depends on what you want out of the particular party at the time.

Here's the kicker: I'm a lifelong teetotaler. Never a drop, not ever. Drugs and cigarettes also a no-go, never have.

People always joke that they'd be afraid to see me high...

Thats a wonderful gift then. Hell you don't need any aphrodisiac or enhancement. I drink but only in moderation...don't like drunks or getting drunk or even tipsy. Strictly social drinking & I don't smoke either. I don't class myself as either an extrovert or introvert merely an observer & breaker of ice.

But I get my moments.

naw... i'm tame and lame now...

we actually had one party that i remember where it was on a farm in an old shed... half of the people were still there the next morning... and so was half the shed

i'm, shall we say, much more laid back nowadays...

but i do like to make sure others are enjoying themselves... nothing worse than seeing someone too timid to join in

Thats just what I mean we need both extremes of people at a party/function to bring us all together as a unit. You can be as loud & obnoxious as you want you may get attention but you may also get no response for your activity. Imagine being booed off.
