Guess I'll start with Mama Mia. The Abba inspired play about a 20 year old girl searching for her long lost father, her three possible dads, neurotic mother, old friends, new flames and of course the music of Abba.

As possibly the only straight male fan of ABBA I would just like to state that this play was simply

FABULOU: heart:S!

Gee that didn't sound too gay, did it?

No it didn't DB!! Great thread btw!!

My one and only time watching something in a theater was Phantom of the Opera!! I saw it at Pantagous in Toronto!! With my mom noless for my 16th birthday!! It was the best thing I have ever seen and they had so many speakers in that place you could swear the people were right behind you!! The chandelier really fell down and almost hit the audience too!!

Excellent thread DB! Please remind me to rep you when I can again... I ran out of the ability to do so today. This is definitely worth rep. =)

I love the theatre. I've seen so many plays and musicals. One of my favorite was WICKED -- it is the story about the Wicked Witch in OZ... based on the book. This musical was simply amazing... I thought about going to NY to see it again but haven't yet.

Here is the link:

WICKED

I also have seen most all of Shakespeare, such as Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Twelfth Night, Hamlet, etc.

I remember one that was a small community theatre about Helen Keller... I think it was called "The Miracle Worker"... it was really good. I remember the actresses were very young but believable. I cried. I laughed. I almost cheered (if I didn't)...

Again, great thread! =)

They do Bard On The Beach here in Vancouver every year. It's a big festival of Shakespear

Ive seen Twelfth Night, Romeo and Juliet and Henry, and Taming of The Shrew

also saw a very strange version of The Tempest at school. I was involved in a few high school musicals (got into the Pit Band... easily one of the funnest things a musician can do). Both times we did a huge compilation peice with stuff from Grease, Oliver, Les mis. and tons of other big name musicals. It was a blast.

Once saw a live version of Doug (cartoon for those who grew up in the 90's ) and a theatre version of Charlie Brown

Going to NY next month so hopefully Ill see something on Broadway

The lion king, Moving Out les misereables, Doctor Dolittle, the flying dutchmen, Evita, and maybe one or two that I can't remember. all for work and The lion kIng is the only one that I enjoyed even though I saw it like a couple dozen times. But that was one of the best cast/ crews I've worked with, yet i would still only be going to try and score no for myself. ANd yes The opera stuff did make me sleepy so I wouldn't go unless forced

Another excellent play, and absolutely hilarious is "Der Fliedermouse"

Now this is a state secret, but once upon a time, before accidentally stumbling into the last episode of Magnum PI and being an extra in 3 episodes of Tour of Duty, I was a Lesbian. Sorry, that was supposed to read "Thespian". Caught the acting bug as a kid being in some Perkins Pancakes commercials, but also appearing in an off, off, off Broadway production called Working Against the Grain written by my 5th Grade Teacher, Hamilton Henderson, in Denver, Colorado. which was my first paid acting gig on the stage. It ran for 10 weeks and we did nightly shows and added matinees on the weekends. I made $300.00/week which seemed like a ton of cash when I was 10. I then moved on to a bunch of other small and short lived production and finally found a certain degree of fame playing initially as "The Criminologist" and later as "Riff Raff" in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" while in High School in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Saw Curtains on Broadway last night, staring David Hyde Peirce (Niles from Fraser). Awesome, awesome show. Great tunes, kept me humming for hours afterwards. Everyone was bang on, the play was hilarious, dancing was great, show was funny. And it was really cool to see an actor I frequently watch on TV, so close and live

Dunno how I managed to miss this thread!

Working in theatre is a blast. I've worked backstage for a couple productions now, happily enough.

Ballets: The Nutcracker, Bolero, Copellia, Memories of the Green
Plays: Children of Eden, Endgame

Coming soon: Little Shop of Horrors, The Musical Comedy Murders Of 1940

Plays that I've seen, but not been a part of: Rocky Horror Picture Show, As You Like It, The Complete Works of Shakespeare, The Glass Menagerie, Streetcar Named Desire, Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Macbeth, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Twelfth Night, Much Ado About Nothing, and Measure For Measure.

As you can see, most of the plays I've seen are Shakespeare! What can I say... he was very popular amongst my high school and first community college theatre departments!

I have not had the privilege to see any of these at large venues, but hope to change that soon enough. (Avenue Q will be at The National Theatre from 27 November-9 December!)

Basically, my experience with the theatre ranges from high school, two community colleges, and here at Marshall University.

I've also helped take down two sets from a black box theatre in Arlington called Signature. The Witches of Eastwick was the second of the two... the first one's name escapes me at the moment.

I've never had the pleasure of seeing a Broadway plan...have always wanted to. I was involved in high school..we did Grease and then my senior year we did an original by our drama teacher called A Sign of the Times. It was a composite of rock music from the 50's to the present (1989 at the time) and how it reflected the current social and world events of each era. Had 2 solos ("Abraham, Martin, and John" and "Johnny Angel") sang back up on several others and danced my butt off. I have always cherished the experience. The Lion King is playing locally and I would love to go see it. Wicked looked really good as well.
Thank you NM
