This is really a pleasant suprise. It could not have come at a better time.
I missed a lot of yesterday due to a bad press problem in Nashville. I was on the
phone for hours and could not fix it sooooo I hopped a flight and I hate flying
since 9-11(I only enjoy the body cavity searches). I get there at about 1pm today
and the rental car dies getting on the freeway. They did not put gas in it.
Finally I get to the printing plant and discover the problem in 15 minutes. Argghh.
A newbie pre-press tech had some how gotten total ink density to over 400%.
I have no idea how, but he seemed like the type of person they print "may cause
suffocation" on plastic bags for.
Somebody is getting a bill for this.
I get back into Milwaukee at approx 8pm only to get stuck in traffic. a 30 minute
drive that took almost two hours. There are two seasons here. Winter and road
construction season.
So it is easy to see why I am thrilled to have something positive happen this week.
It got off to a bumpy start, but looks like smooth sailing.
I think I'm turning Japanese, I think I'm turning Japanese, I really think so............

Re: Congrats to our newest Ashigaru
I am just a pre-press and printing worker. I got lucky and we (the wife and I)
decided to go indepenent about 16 years ago. That lead to a mssive amount
of self teaching and learning from errors. Then I got a lot of calls as to how we
got certain types of files to print and how to get color seperartions from a file.
So it was clear that the whole printing world was going digital and nobody knew
WTF they were doing other than ruining work flows. So we went full bore into
just prodution and consulting. Between the computers and my time around presses
it was a perfect fit and a bit of a niche. This was a job we prepped and proofed and
had already de-bugged. I knew it was not the file, but it was a dated coupon insert
and had to be ready for this Sunday's newspapers. It does not happen often, but
I told the rep that if I got there and it was not a fault in our files then my expenses
and time were billable. They sent a PO number and I hit the road.
Not an expert, just a lot of analog and digital experience seamlessly integrated.
My wife gets the credit, it was her idea to start the company.

Thats my trade too Noodles!!!
been in it for 17 years now... in fact since i was 17!
traditional light-table and camera skills were the norm, and had to self train on the computer side of things after my apprenticeship finished. then did a design course about 8 years ago, which i got credit for as i had the trade background, but never finished it as i kept "disagreeing" with the Graphic Design "Teachers" who really knew fuck-all about the printing process...
nice to see ya got out on your own matey, as myself i have a severe lacking of the ambition to make anything of my future... lol
