Contemplation...

About 11 years ago I left the law enforcement field for education. After a very frustrating first half-year, I am considering going back into L.E. as a juvenile detention officer. I'm hoping for a better 2nd half, but I am really getting sick of all of the junk we are having to deal with now in the education system.....especially nutless, sissy, unsupportive administrators. Any thoughts or advice?

My uncle and a close family friend are both teachers and complain of the same thing. Dealing with parents and administration gives them both a lot of headaches.

What both have done is stepped back from their duties a little bit and found a second source of income. Our family friend joined the Reserves and plays in the military band at age 45

And my uncle who is also a musician is in a German Oompa band and does gigs with them

Not sure how that helps, but that's what they do

Leaving the education field for the LE juvenile detention field? That's like going from banging your head against the wall to placing your head on the anvil and repeatedly hitting it with the hammer. I enjoy my work except for the part of having to deal with juvenile occassionaly, dealing with them is easy it's the courts I hate.

sounds like an interesting mix of old and current job. Weigh the pros and cons.

Juvenile detention does sound a bit more stressful and doesn't allow the same vaca sched as what you have though.
