This is kind of a re-post but is is the 5th today-

Gunpowder Treason Should ever be forgot.

Remember, remember, the 5th of November
Gunpowder Treason and plot ;
I know of no reason why the Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.

Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes,
'Twas his intent.
To blow up the King and the Parliament.
Three score barrels of powder below.
Poor old England to overthrow.
By God's providence he was catch'd,
With a dark lantern and burning match

Holloa boys, Holloa boys, let the bells ring
Holloa boys, Holloa boys, God save the King!

Hip hip Hoorah ! Hip hip Hoorah !
A penny loaf to feed ol'Pope,
A farthing cheese to choke him.
A pint of beer to rinse it down,
A faggot of sticks to burn him.
Burn him in a tub of tar,'
Burn him like a blazing star.
Burn his body from his head,
Then we'll say: ol'Pope is dead.

I wonder what the country would've of been like if he suceeded? Would it have been the right thing to happen? Would it have changed the way we are living now?

I watched V on the 5th. Thought it apt.

With regards to Marks point, I'm pretty anti-royalist so in my opinion there would have been a period without those unelected spongers, leeching off everyone else, giving nothing in return and living excelently. But then as always happens, someone would have come along to fill the void. We had a whole civil war to remove ther king. After Cromwell died we just put Charles son back on the throne.

I was never too fond of the roundheads either... substituting one King for another.
At it's most basic level... that's all it was.

The best government is NO government.

Nope, that's just the earliest stage, verwirrung... the "land of take what ewe want" - eventually we'd reach a stage of true voluntary order or "ordnung".
Some call it Utopia.
It's anarchy.

The alternative (government controlled living) results in ultimate loss of individuality and freedom by allowing others to manage (badly) our lives and relations:
Quoting:
"In fact, let us not mince words... The management is terrible!
We've had a string of embezzlers, frauds, liars and lunatics making a string of catastrophic decisions. This is plain fact...

But who elected them?

It was us (sic) who appointed these people... gave them the power to make your decisions for you... encouraged these malicious incompetents... accepted without question their senseless orders...

Since Mankind's dawn a handful of oppressors have accepted the responsibility over our lives that we should have accepted for ourselves... by doing so, they took our power, by doing nothing we gave it away."

-V for Vendetta p116/117 - p258
I'm not a fanatic, but I am dissatisfied with our owners.
