I'm not really one of those guys who's purpose is to screw over the big guy, and I'm sure if I was someone would rip me for it... so that's perfectly clear!
BUT!
Dont you all hafta admit, at least one time, that you REALLY got your money's worth for something? Or that you REALLY exploited somethin for all its worth and felt at least some pleasure
I broke my poor celly phone the other day. It was very sad. The screen is all white now.
Took it down to the guys at the provider's outlet in the mall and said 'I dono a thing about your policy... what can I do?"
WELL.... they told me to repair it would cost $70 just to open it, and then fees for whatever needed fixing. The guy was sympathetic, and told me it was just a flux cable or something that needed to be changed.
So I was left with a few options... pay probably 100$ to fix a phone that's getting old anyways... not my preference with only 9 months left on the contract. Buy a brand new phone; not in my university budget, or buy and unlocked GSM phone on eBay, pretty sketchy, and still probably fairly pricey.
Anywho... I left and contemplated my delma. Fortunatly, I had a friend who works at the cell phone providers! He gave me a number to call and told be sometimes they'll offer the same deals as you get when you sign up for a 3 year contract! That'd be fine by me, get a good phone for a good deal, and then not hafta buy a new one in 9 months when the contract is up!
WELL
I call it in! Took a bit to get through, and then it turned out the phone was not in my name because a few years back my dad did it through his company to get a deal. SO he had to call in, and get the phone fully changed over to my name. That took a few days. Then I had to find an evening where I could talk on the phone, as I asumed it could take an hour.
Well, finally, after being awful sick of getting text messages and not being able to read them, I gave the company a call and tried something!
I used the T word.... Telus (the largest phone provider). They were not happy to hear that at all I tell ya!!! I told them that I wanted to swtich to their cheapest plan, and then Telus would pay off the rest of the contract for me.
Within a fairly short period of time I had a FREE, brand new phone on the way (one of the new motorola razors), an extra 100 minutes a month, and my free calling now starts an hour earlier... simply cus I'm a spaz and broke my own damned phone!
It was a great day
But it worked both ways... I'll be with this provider for a loooong time to come. Telling that story to friends with other companies, I've heard how none of the other providers give a damn if you're moving over or not.
So that's how I got my money's worth!
