So long dear friend
Just thought I'd let my friends here know that I'm in a pretty bummed out mood today, even though I'm at home with my family it's not all great.
My Dad did his usual morning activity, taking the dog for a walk, we'd gotten Monty back in September 2005 so he was nearly a year and a half old. One of the places the dog loved going for a walk was on a old railway line near by, my Dad parked his car in the usual spot and took Monty off for a good morning stroll.
When they returned Monty obviously had seen something to chase and didn't wait in his normal spot by the rear of the car. He ran straight into the road and unfortunately was hit by a car. Monty died instantly, we buried him a few hours ago near an apple tree where he'd been digging a hole.
Needless to say everyones quite upset, we've lost animals before but the recent ones in the last few years were all due to old age or they'd had a medical problem with them and they'd been around for a while, it's just a shock that Monty died young as so suddenly.
Just thought I'd share with you all so that if I seem distant or non responsive at least you do know why.

I'm really sorry to hear that Sparky. A pet is part of the family regardless of type or age so I can understand your loss and I totally empathise with you.
That was a lovely gesture of you to bury him at his digging spot and no doubt you'll call back once in a while to pay your respect to a loveable companion.

Wow. I am truly sorry mate.
My empathy is awakened on many levels. You all know I go to Cat Tales Zoo a lot. Well, today, in a couple of hours, Scooter and I are going to say goodbye to Lil. She is one of the Bengal Tigers. She has cancer and is expected to die very soon. She may even be dead as I type this.
Even this bugs me. Brings back the memories of my lost pets.
Really, like most things, you'll just need to time the let the thoughts and feelings sort themselves.
Just know you have friends that understand while you take that time.
I am sorry.

Oh dear, its seems its just one of those days. Its a very painful experience so my thoughts are in deep deliberation.
Life has a unique way of giving us pain and pleasure. There is the pleasure of the company you've had and sadly the pain of the loss.
Have strength in the knowledge you have had that pleasure in knowing a wonderful creature.

Cheers guys and G, sorry to hear bout the Tiger, I hope you get to see it once before it's too late.
Well the hard part was done but still gotta tell other people, nearly had one friend close to the family crying when we told her earlier.
Life goes on and we're not sure if we'll be getting another dog yet, even if we were too then it would not be for a while

I am very sorry to hear about your loss, Sparky. The pets in my house are just as much a part of the family as the humans are, so I know that were I you, I'd be taking this hard, so I understand if you do. I will light an incent and say a prayer for Monty's spirit. May he find happiness in his next life.
Trying to prepare myself for the imminent death of both of my cats at the moment, myself. They have feline lukemia, and one of the two is getting to be very bad off. I'm afraid it'll be a one-way trip to the vet's office for both of them soon, and it's going to be incredibly hard. My Joshie is my baby... I love him a lot.

Re: So long dear friend
There's no allocated time period for grieving and I dare say in time you'll probably get another one. They say time is a healer but the process is different for each of us.
No-one can judge you and everyone will understand how you are feeling I'm sure of that.
Chin up mate, cherish the memories of him.

I'm so sorry Marky! Losing a pet is never easy..it really is losing a family member.
My last pet died last Feb and I still haven't been able to replace her.

Re: So long dear friend
Sparky, I am so sorry for your lost. It is so hard to lose a pet--I understand how you feel about not being ready right away to open yourself up to another one soon. When I lost my cat a couple of years ago, I grieved for a long time. Took me 3 years to finally get another one and really only did then for the kids since they wanted one so badly. I just simply haven't been able to bond with this one yet. We do bond so closely with our animals that they do become a part of our families. Take your time and enjoy your memories of your dear friend and know that you have another extended family from around the world who are thinking of you in your time of need.
Thank you NM

Re: So long dear friend
Thanks everyone, it may not sound like much but your words do mean something.
My Dad's really beating himself up over what has happened, blaming himself for not putting Monty on the lead earlier but what happened happened, I've tried to tell him it's not his fault though any situation people do think back and wish they'd done things a different way. I think for him it has hit him the most but we all knew what Monty was like, young and wanting to explore everywhere whilst chasing anything or anyone.
We've lost dogs before but they'd lived longer and unfortunately we had to have them put down which was always upsetting for my Dad as he'd been the one taking them to the vets.
I'm glad of one thing, being here when it happened, if I'd been at work I don't think I'd have been in a stable state of mind to be dealing with customers, I have a short fuse at the best of times and I would've been worse if there.
Monty, although he had a short life he had a good life, we all loved him, we all enjoyed his company, hell, last night he was sat on the sofa with me trying to grab my hand with his front paws and nibble on it playfully. He's going to be missed, even our cat Ozzy has noticed and is sad but, Monty will forever be remembered by us all.
Now, excuse me, rambling.... On the Vodka
