stupid cat
I adopted this cat today from the animal shelter, because I wanted some company. I got it home, set up the litter box, food dish, water dish, all the stuff a cat needs. I spent a few hours playing, and now all he does is walks around and meows. It's really quite irritating, especially when I tried to go to sleep, and he just walked around my bedroom meowing. What should I do? I can't see taking him back to the shelter, and the bastard's already cost me $100, I think I hate that cat. Anyone think it'll calm down once he gets used to the new environment, or should i drive to some ranch property and release him?

A lot of times they will calm down after awhile. They do take time to adjust. Can definitely drive you nuts for bit though.
I'll have Rabbit read this and see what she thinks. She has had several adopted cats.

Just talked to her. She says the cat probably just needs some extra TLC for several days while he adjusts to his new enviroment. She says they do that all the time when exposed to a new person and place. They will wander around and be distraught. So, security and patience will help.
She also says that catnip will help a lot. Get some quality stuff from a petshop.

I'll give it a 2 weeks and thanks for the help, I'm going insane, especially because I lied to the shelter and told them I'm allowed to have a cat because I live on base. When I first got him home, he ran straight to my bedroom (which is in the back of the house) and wouldn't come out for a while, then he came out and keeps walking back and forth from my room to the bathroom. He only meows every so often, but once he starts it goes for a few minutes, then I think he pre-occupies himself with something, and then once he loses interest, it's back to meowing

Sounds exactly like she described to me on the phone - combination of exploration/insecurity. So, hopefully, that being true he should settle down after awhile. Sounds like the more attention you give him when he cries the sooner he become secure and settle down.
Rabbit said to keep posting updates and she'll advise as best she can.

His name is Walter and he finally went to sleep. He's on the back of the couch and it looks like he fell asleep while watching me, I hope he didn't see what I said about him He's a VERY affectionate cat, he perches himself on my shoulder like a parrot, and rubs his head against mine
