Default Paychecks

Ok, heres the story. A buddy of mine got fired from his job somewhere around March 15th. He had worked 2 weeks previous to his firing and he still hasnt been paid for those 2 weeks. He got into some trouble and needs the money to pay fines. So how long can a company hold his paycheck?
I swear, this isnt my first time here

That depends on each state's labor laws. In California, they have to pay up quick. Usually in less than 30 days. So the best bet is to look the state's website, and find the agency that is in charge of labor and employment issues. They should have a set of rules and regulations that lay down the law on the topic.
