Default what's your recommendation?

I have decided to broaden my listening horizons, I am currently into mostly Punk, Metal, and Hardcore, however, I am interested in anything except rap, or country. I know the Godfather has some very strong opinions of music he listens to. So here is a thread for people to recommend some "must have" bands for their specific musical tastes. Not only does this apply to must have bands, but also must have albums. I consider myself a very open minded person when it comes to music (I just see no talent in rap, and I don't care much for most of the messages rap portrays). I'll start.

My favorite Band is Alkaline Trio
Favorite Albums by Alkaline Trio: "Maybe I'll Catch Fire" & "From Here to Infirmary"
I also VERY VERY VERY strongly recommend a band called The Old Canes, they only have one album out "Early Morning Hymns" I believe that this album is an absolutely fantastic addition to anybody who enjoys music's collection. I have yet to find someone who I've played this CD for, who didn't start tapping their feet within a few minutes. Please, take the time to open me (and anyone else who is interested) up to your favorite music.

She Want's Revenge is good.
If you're looking for something mellow, a bit poppy, but terrific lyrics check Death Cab for Cutie.

See if you can find Tom Petty's greatest hits. Some of his songs tell great stories
and he can really rock out. His best stuff is old school good ol' rock and rock.
No candy coating on it.

Not really much of a Tom Petty kind of guy, I'll agree that his music is good, but I just don't see myself sitting and listening to him...I won't change it if he's on the radio, but I don't search for him either...knowwhatImeanvern?

Jack Johnson. Find him. You'll love him. Start with Brushfire Fairytales. It will make you want to be a surfer

I hear ya Vern

Babbaloo is right about Jack Johnson. I also am a big fan of Dick Dale, both are legendary talents.

Wiggy if you like SRV have you tried Albert Collins, or Robert Cray?

no I have not tried Albert Collins, or Robert Cray, but I did download an album called "Rockin in the Free World" with Yngwie Malmsteem, Joe Satriani, and Steve Vai, it's a pretty excellent CD with 3 excellent guitarists!! I've heard a few Jack Johnson songs, and I'm not really into him, I don't know what it is about him, I'm just not into him

U2 ~ Joshua Tree is my all time fav album

just the most beautiful heartfelt record ever produced

Other quality artists and albums ~

Tom Mcrae ~ Tom Mcrae (singer/songwriter described as AN ANGEL WITH THE DEVILS TUNES)

Mark Lanegan ~ Field Songs (Singer/songwriter. Album described as something ud listen to whilst driving for hours on a desert highway!!)

Nine Inch Nails ~ Broken (Balls out white noise rock) or PRETTY HATE MACHINE (the most heartfelt electro recording u can imagine)

VAST ~ Visual Audio Sensory Theatre (Awesome band part U2/NIN/Led Zep)

White Stripes ~ Get Behind Me Satan (Fantastic stripped down rock)

OPETH ~ Ghost Reveries (scare the s**t outa u)

~ check em all out using PANDORA (In links section) which incidentally does EXACTLY what ur asking for!!

1. I don't care for U2, I understand why they're such a popular band, and they may be good to some people, but I just can't tolerate them.

2. I really do like NIN

3. I have the White Stripes discography.

Tool is my new thing this week. I downloaded all their CDs last night and have been listening to all of them ever since.
