The Golden Compass

Has anyone seen this movie ?? I have heard alot of controversy about it. I have recieved numerous emails and even text messages about it being written by an athiest and the main plot of the story being about killing God .
Now personally I have no problem with another person's belief or non belief as it may be , but I'm not sure I would want my kids to see a movie about killing God either . But there is the fact that it could be this is not actually the case and rumors of the plot are spreading just because the author of the books the movie is based on is an athiest .
I would go see the movie for myself but as with Brokeback Mountain it is not being shown in my town as the town is pretty much run by southern baptists .

The trailers i have seen just look like another Narnia type movie to me , I'm just curious as to if it is all hype or what because I do recall similar controversy about the Harry Potter movies .

Heard about it...in my opinion- people are more pissed about the atheist thing so they are attacking the movie. Just like the non-religious people attacked Narnia.

My wife, daughter and I have read the book it is excellent. Sparky has read it.
It is does not slam the church in any way unless somebody wants to read that into
it. Like Lisey said Narnia and its author Lewis took the same negative rep.

The movie was right on spot until the end. I suspect they did it that way so that if
it did not do well they could leave it and if it did well then they could finish up the
trilogy on film. It is a great set of books IMO.
