Disregard the PM I sent you. I went to Toshiba's site and the do not.

I went to Google Product Search and typed blu-ray/HD DVD players for the search string.

Most of the descriptions of Blu-ray players has HD in the description and I thought
they were combo units. After read tech specs on many makes and models
it appears there are only a couple of players on the market that are combo units.
The LG seems to be the one most liked. I can only find it for around $800 so it
appears my lack of knowledge with HD and blu-ray as stated in my first post
got me confused and I was giving out flawed info. The up side is now I have
learned a lot about the market.

Cool

A guy at A&B Sound (dono if they're around you, but they have the world's cheapest legal CD's) told me that a 400$ blu ray player is coming out soon

Gotta watch what you're looking at too, because some ad themselves as HD and are cheap, but if you look at what they really are, they're just fancy DVD players that make regular DVDs look nice (and will make you cry when they simply dono what to do with a stack of 30$ HD-DVDs you just bought)

I say again... I wish one would simply freakin win already Microsoft has said that if need be, they can create a Blu-ray addition for the 360 (the HD-DVD is already out for around 200$ that hooks up to your Xbox 360), while PS3 is Blu-ray only. Sooo, I say it would please the gaming community most if Blu-ray won, because it's got a bigger capacity, and those who have either 7th Gen. system (S.O.L Wii) are in luck!

Meh.. it's a war

But you cant buy a HD/Blu ray all in one player for 400$

Yah... the thing did look high end. Im actually just looking at it on the net. (it's actually worth $1400, 1200$ US) It's made by LG and is the only one capable of playing both Blu ray and HD DVD. Sooo yah you can get a player starting at 400$ish (US and Can dollar are about the same at this point) but you hafta chose one player or the other

Cheapest blu ray is about 600$ (Best Buy in the states has one at 500$) and HD starts at about 400$... you could buy both separatly for cheaper!!

Im headed to NY at the end of August... if one or the other looks to be winning big time in the next 2 months, maybe Ill pick one up
dont bother mate

universal players have already started so wait a year till theyve proper dropped in price (And the quality of them improves with each generation)

Make sure it UPSCALES normal dvds too as the quality, whilst not upto high def quality, is still VERY good (through hdmi)

Yeah for sure

Im just thinkin' now that I dont really need either.... Ive got a DVD collection well over 100 DVDs strong, so Ill just ride them out for a while All I can say is if when one or the other wins this little format war, the players better play old DVDs and make them look better or Ill throw a shit fit

A lot of the new players have up conversion to as high as 1080, but they still do not look as good as the real HD DVDs.

Yep... first you had Blockbuster, and now Wal-Mart, Target, and Circuit City have all announced that they will no longer be carrying HD DVDs... Congrats, Blu-Ray!

... Now if only my brand new laptop that has a Blu-Ray drive on it also came with software that I can actually play the damned movies with...

Yeah, it is. And I can only find two different programs to do it with, and each cost $100 a piece (roughly £51 or 102$CA)! Grr...
