Hey DC!!!

I don't get it. I finally watched the first episode of Firefly, but... wait... I've already seen Serenity and... well, uggghhhh!!!

If River is in Ep 1 or Season 1, then how come they are "new" to the Serenity in the Movie???

Give me a clue here before I watch anymore episodes and my head melts, will ya??

The opening to the movie is an error and does not follow suit with the actual series; generally it is considered a far more "attention" grabbing opening scene, however, she was already rescued in the series (not by Simon - but people he paid to get her out) and on the run - they pay to 'hid-out' on the ship, but they become a part of the family.
It is confusing to watch the opening whether you have seen the series or not.
It is also best to watch the series first - you gain greater understanding as weel as character compassion (in the movie characters die and do you really care when you have only just been introduced to them?)

...What she said!

But seriously... the beginning of the film was changed so it would be more attention grabbing, like Viggy said. It doesn't actually follow the storyline. The rest fits really well, though. And in general, I would definitely recommend watching the show first, but I've known Browncoats (Firefly/Serenity fans) who've seen the film first and still loved both (Speedy and one of his best friends both became Browncoats this way).

I bought the movie some time ago. Had not even heard of the TV show, as I don't really watch TV anyway. So, fate is what it is.

I did however like the first episode very much. Looked for the series on ebay and can only find it in BluRay, so I'll just rent it though...

Don't know if I fit the title of 'Browncoat' quite yet though!!!!

Give it time...

But yeah... they released it in BluRay recently...I wish I had the extra cash to spend on it! But as it is, Speedy and I both have a copy on DVD, so...

You should be able to find it on NetFlix or maybe Blockbuster, though. It's roughly fifteen hours worth of show, not counting the extras. I've watched the whole series in one day before... more than once, actually... I was introducing a friend to the show, and after the first episode, she wanted to watch the second, and after that the third... it ended up being a Firefly day...

Already on the Netflix queue!

And, I could see spending a whole day watching it. Great show. A little deeper than meets the eye from only watching the Movie.

Yeah... Whedon dumbed it down just a little making the movie. He confessed that he much preferred making tv series because you could really explore things. With film you just don't have time.

The best thing about the movie though was how kick ass River was... wish she was more like that in the series~!

It is alluded to twice in the series... once when she fires a gun and some other time I don't recall...
