I have no books to share. I'm supposed to read "Hey Nostradamus!" as well as re-read Red Storm Rising (or Red Phoenix, whichever comes first) but obviously, I have no time.
So instead, I'll share a story:
For those who don't know, for a while I was living in Southern California. In "The O.C." there's a mall called South Coast Plaza. It's a pretty big mall, with a very distinct split-personality. On one half, it's a very standard sort of mall. Sears, McDonalds, etc. On the other half, it's very high end. Tiffany&Co and Macy's are the *scummy* stores on that end.
So anyway, one day, I was walking through the mall (escaping the summer heat, as usual) when I noticed a few mopey teens in black go by. Something I'm used to from home, but I never see any at this mall, so I thought it was a little strange.
As I wandered towards the "fancy" end of the mall, I started noticing more and more gothy kids wandering around. Like DOZENS of them. It started to feel like I had wandered into a sequel of Night of the Living Dead. Even more comical was the looks on the pretty people shuffling as their pretty mall invaded by the dark armies.
As it turns out, the bookstore at the fancy end of the mall (I forget the name, but they make the Brentano's at the other end look like a KMart) was having an Anne Rice Booksigning. Something I quickly deduced when I found the dozens more standing in line outside the store.
Sadly, long before I had a digital camera, or else I'd have pictures to share of the day Anne Rice came to town and the Dark Armies marched upon Orange County.
still the philosophy of sustainable design....whoo...its hard to get through...next will be Cradle to Cradle...another architecture sustainable book for school.
My read list is not so long. Can't seem to work on more than one at a time (3 young ones may factor into that a bit). I am getting ready to start "Traveling Light" by Max Lucado.
For me... *The Elfstones of Shannara by Terry Brooks
Excellent choice. I have read all of that series. It has been several years ago but I really like Terry Brooks. From what I understand you are on vacation. Can't wait to meet you. It seems from several of your posts we have a number of the same interests.
Location: In my lair; it's dark and it WAS quiet 'til you got here, so leave me the fuck alone!

Currently, I'm finishing up Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden, and I must say it is absolutely wonderful. I haven't seen the film yet, but I hope it does the book at least some sort of justice! If it does, it will be very good.
Also, while I was on vacation, I read Machinations (Ultima: The Technocrat War, Book 1) by Austen Andrews, which I picked up from the resort's little library. It was actually pretty good. I've never played the game that it's based on, but I might have to try to find it, as well as the other two books that make up the trilogy of The Technocrat War (I believe the other two are called Masquerade and Maelstrom, respectively). Read through the entire book in a day and a half! And it was a normal-sized paperback of about three hundred and fifty pages. Haven't read through a book that quickly in a while (Memoirs not included...I had to make myself stop reading it during my vacation so I would have something to do on the plane ride home! ).

grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence until you get over there and fall in a hole
Haven't went snooping around to find out, but I assume there are more Shannara books than just this trilogy? I think I recall seeing more than just those on my Love's father's bookshelf...
There is a second Shannara series that is a prequal set: The Heritage of Shannara
The Scions of Shannara
The Druid of Shannara
The Elf Queen of Shannara
The Talismans of Shannara
The First King of Shannara

I want to read that one. I have heard it is wonderful. Nothing like a good book that you cannot put down. I'll have to make that my next purchase. I haven't seen the movie yet either.
I just finished A Feast for Crows by George R. R. Martin. It is an excellent series-- You might like it. The first book is A Game of Thrones. It takes him forever to get the next book out though--I am patiently waiting at the moment
