North side towards the middle. It is a little island off of the coast.

Looks like a real paradise and judging by those pics I can imagine you didn't want to leave.

It was beautiful and fun...though the majority of my time in Cuba was not spent in this particular place. I was only there for one weekend. The water was beautiful -- we got to scuba dive and snorkel -- wish I had an underwater camera -- the reef and sea life were amazing. They swam right up to us... When I was snorkeling I was so excited and so enthralled by what I was doing I kept trying to follow fish and then I'd go all the way under and start breathing in water... dork! Hahahaha... it took me about 5 times of becoming engrossed (and trying to kill myself) before I decided it was time to go scuba diving. =)

The only sad part about this particular paradise is that it is set up for tourists only. They do not allow Cubans there except for the ones who work there. It is a pity. So, I saw a bunch of Canadians there... hahaha... =) Fun stuff.

No, but I have a close friend who is from Cuba and worked in the fishing industry there.
He has great pictures and has taught me a lot about Cuba. I am hoping to get there.

Fantastic! And where are you? I bet your Cuban friend misses Cuba a lot. It is an amazing place. When did he come over and why? If it is not too personal to answer. I would definitely recommend going.

Pastafarian, It is hard to roll into a joint

Gave up the herbs when our daughter was born.

He misses the tropics, he could not stand the oppressive government that tourist don't see.
So he is content to be earning about 70 times what he used to earn in Cuba.

Pastafarian is a part of the FSM movement. Flying Spaghetti Monster -- check it out.

When did your friend leave Cuba? I was not a tourist -- this trip to Cayo Coco was the only time I did anything remotely touristy. For the majority of the few months I was there...I lived with a Cuban family and attended a Cuban University in Cienfuegos.

It is good that your friend is happy, though I am sure he misses Cuba. The land is beautiful.

Just looked it up, it is a good cause. Spagheity was another great phrase from their site.

That is cool that you got to live there. I should not have mad the assumption.

He does miss it, and knows he can't go back, but he does not have any family left there
so as he puts it he will just have to settle for trips the Caribbean to get similar views.

Most Cubans who leave do miss it. It is their homeland. Much like I would miss the beautiful Pacific Northwest if I left it... and I have. Luckily, I am not kept out when I do.

Spagheity! I love that site. Funny.

So he can't go visit? They are allowed visits -- special visas -- or did he leave in a manner which negates the option?

He left without permission so they won't give him the special visa. He is a US citizen now.
