the scenery of Istanbul from Atakoy at just around dusk...notice the mosques at the skyline, these were probably about 6 or 7 miles away

funny thing sp00k, we've known we're going to get married for about 2 years now, it's a matter of timing and logistics, her family isn't too thrilled about her moving so far away, so that causes some tension. On Friday night (27th of October) we went to this really nice restaurant, I had flowers and the ring my dad proposed to my mom with 28 years ago, I did the whole traditional "one knee" thing, and she accepted. Her older brother called shortly afterward and asked where she was and if he could come because he had " a few questions to ask me". Now I had never met this brother (she's from a family of 7 kids, she's the 3rd youngest) and he's been a thorn in this relationship's side since he found out we were together. We met up and he asked me 2 questions, both were boring and pointless, and he decided he knew enough about me from those 2 questions to tell her he doesn't approve. That, combined with the other outside stressors caused us to break up not 12 hours after she accepted the "official" marriage proposal. I don't blame her for it in the least bit, considering there is so much more to this story than I have time to explain, but in the end everything worked out, we are happily together again, and we've made huge progress with her family and their acceptance since. Her brother apologized and came to the airport to see me off. I have a good feeling about all of this

all these pics are in Izmir, I'd like to live there one day after retirement, luckily there's a base there that I will eventually get stationed at!!

Ataturk Square, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk is the founding father of modern Turkey, and quite an interesting person as well, I'd recommend anyone with some spare time read up on him, he's a sort of role model in my opinion...here's a statue of him.


My girlfriend in Ataturk Square, the sea is behind her(Fatos pronounced Fatosh, short for Fatma, the name of Muslim Prophet Muhammed's daughter)
